Our Story

Back in 2014, a bunch of students from NTU came together to sell customisable paper notebooks as part of an entrepreneurship programme. Our goal was to allow individuals to express themselves through the things they owned and used.

As the business was not sustainable, we pivoted the business to selling printed t-shirts to students and corporate teams. We even started our own printing factory!

While we were in the t-shirt printing business, we felt like something was missing. There were 100s of t-shirt printing companies and we were no different. We wanted to stand out and make a difference.

While attending to our customers, we realised many people wanted to print their own custom designs. But on 1, 2 or 3 t-shirts - it was possible but costly!

We came up with an idea of painting on t-shirts instead. However, premium quality fabric paints that could last through washes was not available in the market. What if we could come up with our own fabric paints? Using our domain knowledge in the tshirt printing industry, and after months and months of research and testing, we came up with our own fabric paints.

We opened our own art jamming studio at the heart of Tai Seng and were first to introduce art jamming on t-shirts, tote bags and even sneakers. What started as The Noteway Art Studio was renamed to Streaks n Strokes.

After about a year in operation, our art studio started to get popular. 1000s of customers, including, families, couples and corporate teams visited our studio for a unique t-shirt and tote bag painting experience.

Then, Covid19 happened. Corporate team building activities came to a halt. Circuit breaker was introduced. Our industry was one of the hardest hit. Due to financial constraints, we had to downsize and shut down our art studio during the circuit breaker period.

At the same time, we did not want to shut down Streaks n Strokes entirely. We decided to go back to the core reason of why we started - to allow individuals to express themselves on items they use every day of their lives. What if they could do this from anywhere they were? They did not necessarily have to be in a studio to do that.

That’s how we started our e-commerce store. We also wanted this meaningful activity to be an opportunity for people to bond with their loved ones even from their homes - so we came up with couple and family kits.

During the covid19 pandemic from 2020 to 2022, we had 100s of happy customers including couples and families buying our DIY painting kits. They painted their fabrics at home and even wore out their painted t-shirts for family outings!
